The CPSC has banned Buckyballs, the tiny geometric-forming magnetic balls, from being sold due to hazards to children. Anyone willing to sell some contraband? I’ve kind of been planning on buying some soon.
But in all seriousness, this is annoying me. I’d understand if this was a children’s toy, and therefore marketed towards kids and could be hazardous, especially since kids always stick random stuff in their mouths. So make non-toxic crayons for kids. But I know artists would give you hell if you stopped production of certain paints because they would be harmful for consumption.
Buckyballs have always been marketed as a specific thing: A toy for adults. It has a nice warning saying keep away from all children! I mean no one has advertised this product in any other way. Its not safe for people to drink windex, or swallow a variety of other things. But those are sold, to the public, to anyone who wants them. Just because parents are irresponsible doesn’t mean that these should be banned! Ugh, I worked in a toy store for kids, we happened to not sell these. I don’t think it would have been very appropriate. But Urban Outfitter’s general audience is plenty old enough to be entrusted with magnets without fear of swallowing them.
This is BS. I call shenanigans.
